Spring Forward March 10, 2013

Reno, NV ~ Spring Forward March 10, 2013 ~ Daylight Savings 2013

Spring ForwardGaining an hour of daylight is great news, but losing an hour of sleep…well, the jury is still out on that one!  In my house, getting your EIGHT hours of sleep is a BIG deal! But it is exciting to know spring is upon us and summer is getting closer!

What is Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight Savings Time, or DST, begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

In March, clocks are moved forward one hour from 2am standard time to 3am DST, and in November, clocks are moved back one hour from 2am DST to 1am standard time.

The phrase “spring forward, fall back” is a helpful reminder of these time changes.

So, why do we “SPRING FORWARD” every year

Why not maintain STANDARD time all year ’round?

Here are some of the suggested benefits of DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME:

  • Daylight is better used in the evenings when we are awake and participating in activities with family and friends (vs. mornings when we are typically sleeping anyway)
  • Reduced road accidents and injuries (because we can better see where we are going and what’s in our way)
  • Less “artificial” light is needed for evening activities because we have natural light
